A huge leak about Google’s rumored folding smartphone, the so-called Pixel Fold. Revealed some critical details about it. Rumors about the Pixel Fold have been floating around for the past few months. Various leaks during this time revealed many critical aspects of it.
The device was initially expected to launch last year, but several delays for unspecified reasons meant it has yet to see the light of day. A report from last year also claimed that Google had put the Pixel Fold project on hold, but that seems to be a false alarm.
A leak in May seemingly revealed the Pixel Fold’s display dimensions and said it could arrive in the fourth quarter of this year. However, a recent leak from South Korea has poured cold water in hopes of a quick launch.
According to the report, the launch date has been delayed again and will not be released before next year. As for the reason behind the delay, the report says that the product is not as complete as “Google wants (it should be)”.
Unnamed internal sources cited by John Prosser’s FrontPageTech claim that the Pixel Fold offers “typical Pixel-Esque performance”. The device is reported to be made of metal compared to regular smartphones. Prosser also has dire news for people looking to buy the Pixel Fold.
According to him, the price of the device is $1,799, which is higher than the base Galaxy Z Fold 4 model. The report says the Pixel Fold could be released in May 2023, which is later than the rumored Q1 launch. The leak also includes several 3D renders of the Pixel Fold, which show a device that looks a lot like the Z Fold 4.
On the back, the camera housing looks somewhat different from the setups on the Pixel 6 and 7. Unlike current Pixel devices, it’s a protruding rectangle rather than a bar that spans the width of the device. The report claims that the device will be available in two colors, Obsidian (black) and Chalk (white), both of which are currently found with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
In terms of hardware, the display on the outside houses a 9.5MP punch-hole camera, while the front-facing selfie camera inside is also a 9.5MP unit. Finally, the Pixel Fold is said to have a fingerprint scanner in the power button next to it.
