The Lady Eagles Basketball Team of Military Magnet Academy in North Charleston, South Carolina, received a community celebration on Saturday after winning three consecutive state titles. The team’s academic success was also acknowledged as all players had a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
In honor of the girls, the Community Resource Center distributed nearly 1,000 bags of groceries, hygiene products, food, and other items to those who attended the event.
According to Louis Smith, the executive director of the Community Resource Center, the girls were exemplary citizens who deserved to be celebrated.
Darryl Ray Griffin, the CEO of Neal Brothers Inc., pledged to contribute the first $5,000 to a fund for a memorial statue to honor the girls on the school’s campus.
He also offered employment opportunities to the players, stating that if they could lead on the basketball court, they could also be business leaders.
