Dolph Lundgren, the renowned Swedish actor, has recently revealed his heartbreaking battle with cancer. Lundgren has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry since the 1980s, having played numerous iconic roles such as He-Man, Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, and various characters in The Expendables series. Despite his success, Lundgren has also faced significant obstacles, including his ongoing fight with cancer.
In a 2021 interview with Salon, Lundgren shared that he never expected to become an action star and only pursued acting because it made him feel good. He also stated that his recent career has been more fulfilling and challenging than ever before. However, his cancer diagnosis has been a significant hurdle for him.
Lundgren shared during an interview on the series “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” that he has been battling cancer for the past eight years. It began with a tumor on his kidney in 2015, and he underwent regular scans to monitor the condition. After getting an MRI for acid reflux in 2020, Lundgren discovered that his cancer had returned, with several tumors found in areas such as his lung, stomach, and spine. His doctor told him that he had little time left to live and recommended that he spend more time with his family.
Fortunately, Lundgren sought a second opinion from a doctor in London, who prescribed a treatment plan to tackle his lung cancer due to its more aggressive mutation. Lundgren stated that if he had undergone a different treatment, he would have had only three to four months left to live. However, his tumors have shrunk by 90% since starting the treatment plan, and he remains hopeful that the medication he’s taking will suppress any remaining cancer activity.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Lundgren’s unwavering spirit and determination have allowed him to remain a beloved figure in the entertainment industry. His journey serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking multiple opinions and never giving up hope in the face of adversity.
