Elizabeth Capaldi’s husband is missing from custody

Investigators recovered human remains from a wooded area near Philadelphia International Airport on Friday, sources told CBS Philadelphia. Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching the area near Hog Island Road with a man in an orange jail jumpsuit and a medical examiner on scene. The discovery comes as the husband of Elizabeth “Beth” Capaldi, who was last seen in Bucks County in October, is now in custody.

Capaldi’s husband, Stephen, was taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on Friday, records show. It was not immediately clear what charges he faced or why he was in custody. Beth Capaldi, 55, was last seen in the early morning hours of Oct. 10 at her home on High Street in Sellersville. Investigators found a man in an orange prison jumpsuit with “prisoner” written on the back near the train tracks.

Evidence suggests that human remains have been found in the area. About 45 miles away, Chopper 3 was parked outside Beth Capaldi’s home in the 200 block of High Street in Sellersville, where Bucks County detectives had been searching since Thursday afternoon. CBS Philadelphia cameras captured K-9s searching around the property and inside the home, as well as detectives in white protective clothing.

Neighbors are hoping Beth Capaldi will be found alive and now the mystery will finally be solved. “It’s scary because we don’t know what’s going to happen,” Tony Buck said. “You’re afraid to walk alone in the neighborhood at night or anytime.” “Pray they find answers to everything and hope the family is at peace,” said Cherry Miller.

In late October, CBS Philadelphia reported that investigators were working around the clock to find the missing Capaldi. “A lot of people are concerned about her,” Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said in October. Weintraub says Capaldi’s husband was the last person to see her. Capaldi’s wallet was missing, but her car, keys, and cell phone were, he said.

“My experience is that people don’t miss unless they want to miss unless there’s a terrible accident or there’s some terrible foul play. None of those three options are great,” he said in October. A spokesman for the Bucks County District Attorney’s office declined to comment, but more information is expected to be released next week.
