After a few years out of retirement from filmmaking, Ethan Coen is back in the director’s chair. Drive-Away Dolls stars Margaret Qualey and Geraldine Viswanathan as besties who indulge in crime high-jinks.
According to Deadline, the film follows “Jamie, a restrained free spirit who laments yet another break-up with a girlfriend and needs to let go of her steadfast friend Marian.”
The couple’s road trip to Tallahassee is derailed by a “group of incompetent criminals.” So less The Tragedy of Macbeth, more Rising Arizona.
Coen is directing from a script he and his editor/wife, Tricia Cook, co-wrote. Co-starring Benny Feldstein, Matt Damon, Coleman Domingo, Bill Camp, and the Internet’s Daddy Pedro Pascal.
Drive-Away Dolls premiere on September 22, 2023.
