NYC discusses COVID-19, monkeypox, and polio ahead of winter months

New York: New York City Health Commissioner will discuss Covid-19, Polio and Monkey Pox during winter meetings. NYC Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan will conduct the briefing on Wednesday at 9 am. Congress stopped due to insufficient resources in the country. White House said it’s due to a lack of congressional funding.

The CDC reports that 35 percent of Americans had a single booster dose. The death toll may be higher if the vaccination continues slowly as winter approaches. According to a CDC report, the agency warned that it could see a daily peak of more than 1,000 deaths per day.

Health experts are also warning of the possibility of another Covid 19 variant emerging.

But so far only one polio case has been identified in New York. As of October 7, polio samples have been found in sewage, according to health department data.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul extended the state of emergency in response to the polio case. It said it will last at least until November 8 as efforts continue to increase polio vaccination rates.
