The R&B musician Jesse Powell, well known for his hit song “You,” passed away at the age of 51 in his Los Angeles home. His younger sister Tamara confirmed the information on Instagram in the early hours of Wednesday (Sept. 14). Reason behind the death was unknow.
The statement from the family starts, “It is with a broken heart that we announce the demise of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell. “He died in his Los Angeles home. The family asks for privacy at this trying time as we mourn his sad death and pay tribute to his lasting legacy. Jesse loved music, and he was especially grateful of his loyal fans who helped him succeed. We want you to know how much you meant to him. –
Carrier starting journey
Louil Silas, Jr., a music industry executive and producer who also launched the careers of Chanté Moore, Keke Wyatt, and Tricky Stewart, was credited for the Grammy-nominated crooner’s finding. On the Billboard R&B chart, Powell’s debut song, “All I Need,” reached at No. 32, and his 1996 self-titled debut album peaked at No. 35. His second album’s lead song, “I Wasn’t with It,” became his first to top the Billboard Hot 100 list, and the album itself peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Heat seekers chart, which was made for artists who hadn’t yet cracked the Top 100 on the Billboard 200.

Powell’s first top 10 hit, the song went on to become his most popular single, arriving its greatest point No.2on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Throughout his career, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter published four studio albums; the latest being Jesse, which was made available in October 2003. He discreetly carried on working in television production and collaborating with other musicians when he stopped.
