Retired State District Judge Solomon John “Sol” Kasseb III died suddenly this week at the age of 74. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Kasseb died “of a sudden onset of sepsis after contracting the virus.”
Kasseb graduated from the University of Texas at Austin Law School and worked in law firms from 1973 to 2008, when he was appointed county judge for the 288th District 2008, filling a vacancy by Governor Rick Perry.
The San Antonio native comes from a family of legal professionals whose father, Solomon John Kassab Jr., worked briefly at Soul and is best known for his role as the drummer in The Court Jesters, a band made up of lawyers.
“Judge Kasseb was a loyal man and an incredible jurist, and he made the world a better place,” said Judge Mary Lou Alvarez. “He will be greatly missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they bear this devastating loss.”

“His presence, wisdom, and knowledge have helped me through the past four years. . And I’m at a loss for words of encouragement. Kasseb is survived by his wife of 50 years, Celeste, three daughters, and six grandchildren.
A reception is planned for Tuesday afternoon, December 13, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Church.
