The latest Marvel movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” directed by James Gunn, has made an impressive debut at the box office with $114 million in ticket sales in North America and $168 million internationally, giving it a $282 million global debut.
However, some analysts speculate that this opening weekend’s numbers might be a result of superhero fatigue rather than the movie’s specific characters. Regardless, this debut marks the beginning of the summer movie season, which typically accounts for 40% of a year’s box office.
The next superhero movie on the schedule is DC’s “The Flash” set for release in June, which has been surrounded by intrigue due to its star’s personal and legal issues.
Gunn’s last Marvel movie before he moves to DC Studios, “Vol. 3” is the final chapter of the space misfits’ story and features a returning cast, including Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldaña.
Though reviews have been mostly positive, they have been a bit more divided than previous installments.
