Thousands of country music fans were waiting when singer Morgan Wallen abruptly canceled his show at Wat Hemingway Stadium on Sunday night. In 2021, he was caught on camera shouting profanities and racial slurs outside a house in Nashville, Tennessee.
A year earlier, Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct after being kicked out of a downtown Nashville bar. He apologized at the time but was suspended indefinitely from his label and had his music pulled by radio stations and streaming services.
Some expressed their anger on social media that the cancellation announcement came after the opening ceremonies were over. The show showed a message saying he couldn’t make it, saying people who bought tickets would be refunded their money.
While Wallen is one of country music’s biggest stars, he’s no stranger to controversy. WTVA-TV reported that video boards inside the Ole Miss football stadium showed the “Thought You Should Know” singer singing his voice Lost.
Saturday night’s show was a huge success, with thousands attending the first concert in the stadium’s history.
