‘Oppenheimer’ trailer: The Way of Water” is a treat for cinephiles. While much has been made of James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel and its stunning visual effects, fans trekking to theaters this weekend will also see trailers for some of next year’s buzziest films.
The “Barbie” teaser shows off Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s stunning doll outfits, and the new trailer for “Oppenheimer” gives fans their best look yet at what Christopher Nolan is cooking up in his film about atomic bomb creator Robert Oppenheimer.
“Oppenheimer” is Nolan’s second film with a World War II theme after the success of 2017’s “Dunkirk”. Although it’s a straightforward war film, “Oppenheimer” promises to be a more intimate character study that takes viewers inside the mind of the man who created history’s deadliest weapon.
Written and directed by Nolan, “Oppenheimer” stars Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Casey Affleck, Gary Oldman, James Reimer, Josh Hartnett, and Aldentre.
With a budget of “just” $100 million, “Oppenheimer” is Nolan’s smallest-scale film in decades. But the spectacle-loving director still finds ways to dazzle his audience. In a recent interview, Nolan explained that the film recreates the first atomic bomb explosion without using any digital effects.
“I think the biggest challenge was recreating the Trinity test [the first nuclear explosion] without using computer graphics,” Nolan said. “Andrew Jackson – my visual effects supervisor, I brought him on board early – was looking at how we could practically do most of the visual aspects of the film, from suggesting quantum dynamics and quantum physics to recreating the Trinity Test.
With my team, I was on a mesa in the extraordinary environment of Los Alamos, New Mexico. , where harsh conditions — huge practical challenges — are essential to the film. “Oppenheimer” opens in theaters on July 21, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
