Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel is in discussions with Pedro Pascal to join the cast
The upcoming Gladiator sequel, which takes place several years after the events of the original movie, will shift its focus to Lucius (played by Paul Mescal), the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).
The film has now entered into discussions with Pedro Pascal, a prominent Hollywood actor, for a potential role. Should the deal be finalized, Pascal will join a star-studded cast that includes Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan, among others.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nielsen, who appeared in the 2000 original film, will also be returning for the sequel. In Gladiator, Russell Crowe portrayed Maximus, a Roman general-turned-gladiator who seeks revenge for the murders of his wife and son.
Although Maximus ultimately loses his life, he manages to save Lucilla and Lucius from harm before dying and reuniting with his loved ones in the afterlife. Ridley Scott will produce the sequel alongside Michael Pruss of Scott Free, Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment, while Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are executive producing.
The script for the movie has been written by David Scarpa.
