Soccer star Lionel Messi defeated France this week to claim two world titles. After leading Argentina to a dramatic victory at the 2022 World Cup, the sporting icon has now also triumphed over a brown egg photo to secure the world’s most-liked Instagram post.
A joyous picture gallery shows Messi and other Argentine players celebrating their win – the first of Messi’s extraordinary career and the third for the country, which last won in 1986. “CAMPEONES DEL MUNDO!!!!!!” The title of the post begins, meaning “world winners”.
The post garnered over 70 million likes within days. Before Messi’s post, the most-liked photo on Instagram was an egg photo – more than 57 million likes from the Instagram account @world_record_egg.
It was posted in 2019, aiming to dethrone the previous record holder, reality TV star Kylie Jenner, who racked up millions of likes when she announced the birth of her daughter Stormi Webster.
Guddu’s account admitted its defeat in its Instagram stories, writing it “feels fragile today” and admitting that Messi was “fried”.
