SUV: More than 270,000 SUVs have been recalled due to fire hazards, urging owners to park their cars outside until they can be inspected and repaired. The recall affects specific 2019-2022 model year Subaru Ascent vehicles, the company said.
According to Subaru, a product-related defect involving the ground bolt increases the risk of fire when the heater is in operation. So far, two fires have been reported, but no crashes or injuries have been caused by the problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement Tuesday about the recall.
NHTSA said the recall affects 271,694 select Subaru Ascent vehicles, Subaru’s largest vehicle, and only three-row SUV. Subaru estimates .6% of potentially affected vehicles will require repairs. Subaru said it will contact owners of affected vehicles within 60 days and replace ground bolts and other parts free of charge if necessary.
