Genesis has been on a roll with both design and electrification, and if the new X Convertible Concept is anything to go by, it doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon. Unveiled ahead of the 2022 LA Auto Show, the new drop-top is the latest in a trio of Genesis X concept cars, offering all-electric previews of what tomorrow’s luxury vehicle could look like.
The first is the Genesis X Concept in early 2021. It previewed the new Genesis grille aesthetic, along with the automaker’s whisker-like light signature. It also made heavy use of recycled and unconventional materials, including cabin fabrics made from leftover leather scraps.
Then, in April 2022, came the Genesis X Speedium Coupe. More aggressive and more distinctively electrified. It eschews the traditional grille in favor of a light-bar-banded aesthetic that is a nod to the automaker’s current design language.
It also promises to be a broad-stroke hint of upcoming Genesis models. Now, it’s the Genesis X convertible’s turn, entering a segment — electric open-tops — that’s rare at the moment. It has a folding hardtop roof, complete with transparent sections above the front row.
But it can open fully allowing all four occupants to feel the wind in their hair.

A long hood and short overhangs along with the memorable quad-light signature. The concave elliptical duck tail gets similar lights at the rear, while the wheels are aerodynamically designed concave dishes. Inside, meanwhile, it’s another driver-centric concept with an asymmetrical finish all around.
Genesis says the Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange color scheme is meant to be a nod to traditional Korean roof architecture, with a mix of reusable wool fabric and leather. Unfortunately for EV convertible buyers, there is no word on production plans for the Genesis X Convertible.
However, we can clearly expect to see hints of these designs in successors to current electric models like the GV60 and Electrified G80.
