Counter-culturalist Rout star Glenn Powell will join Daisy Edgar-Jones in Universal and Emblem’s Twister movie. Minari Helmer Lee Isaac Chung MarkL. Smith will direct from the script. Frank Marshall is producing through his banner Kennedy/Marshall Company.
Marshall’s wife, current Lucasfilm chairman Kathleen Kennedy, was the original’s managing patron. Twister stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as rival storm chasers, Willie’s hosts, and romantic storm chasers who defy their desires for each other.
John de Bont directed the original, which grossed nearly $500 million worldwide and featured observation-wobbling, bottom-shaking THX sound design. Steven Spielberg is the administrative patron and Michael Crichton wrote the script.
The new story is not an effect, nor is it intended to bring back old characters. The plant is describing it as a “new chapter” in the story. Edgar-Jones stars in the design as a former storm chaser who, after surviving a devastating Williewa disturbance, now works an office job.
However, she is soon forced to – you guessed it – step back into the breach in the past. Administrative vp production Sarah Scott and creative superintendent Jacqueline Garrel will oversee the film for Universal Pictures. Ashley Jay Sandberg oversees Kennedy/Marshall.
The film is co-financed by Warner Bros. Filmland. Powell, repped by CAA and Johnson Shapiro, has been a hot plant item since Maverick’s gradual rise. He starred opposite Sidney Sweeney in the Sony rom-com and co-wrote and starred in the action comedy Hitman, directed by Richard Linklater.
