According to a report by the Economic Times, the thief, Shanice Aviles, a 30-year-old woman, also known as the “Known Thief,” stole the stairwell leading to Robert De Niro’s Upper East Side apartment. According to reports, police officers saw the woman entering the basement of the building at 2.45 am and there were signs of forced entry.
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department said they were trying to remove property from the woman’s room. They also claimed that they saw her bagging the presents under the tree. A police spokesman revealed that the suspect was known to the NYPD for ‘numerous burglary arrests’.
They added, “The woman was taken into custody without incident with charges pending. The investigation is ongoing.” Reports state that Robert De Niro was engaged upstairs on his iPad when he heard the commotion downstairs and that his daughter was in the apartment in his bedroom at the time of the attempted burglary.
