FSU Women’s Basketball has selected Lotson to participate in the 2023 USA Women’s America’s Cup Team Trials.

Ta’Niya Latson is a talented basketball player. Florida State Women’s Basketball’s Ta’Niya Latson has been selected to participate in the 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team Trials, which will be held from May 11-15 in Colorado Springs. This event will feature 22 student-athletes, including Latson, who will compete with and against some of the best U.S.-born collegiate players in the country.

As the consensus National Freshman of the Year last season, Latson delivered one of the best performances in program history in 2022-23, setting an FSU single-season record with seven 30-point performances and averaging 21.3 points per game. After the selection of the 2023 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team, athletes will return to Colorado Springs for training camp in June.

The United States has captured four AmeriCup gold medals since the event’s inception in 1993, and the 2023 FIBA AmeriCup will also feature Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.

She is a junior guard and has been an integral part of the team since she joined in 2019. Latson was born on October 29, 2000, in Denham Springs, Louisiana. She attended Walker High School, where she played basketball and was named the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019. Latson was also named the Louisiana Miss Basketball in her senior year. During her high school career, she averaged 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.

After graduating from high school, Latson joined the Florida State Women’s Basketball team in 2019. In her freshman year, she played in 28 games, starting in four of them. She averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. Her best game of the season came against Wake Forest, where she scored 15 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

In her sophomore year, Latson played in all 25 games of the season, starting in eight of them. She improved her stats and averaged 6.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. She also had a career-high 21 points against Virginia Tech in February 2021.

During her junior year, Latson continued to improve and was a key player for the Seminoles. She played in 26 games, starting in 25 of them, and averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. She was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second consecutive year.

Latson’s talent and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and she has been recognized for her achievements. In addition to being named the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year and Louisiana Miss Basketball in high school, she was also named to the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game and the 2019 Jordan Brand Classic.

Off the court, Latson is also involved in community service and has volunteered with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Special Olympics.
