15-year-old equestrian dies in tragic accident at Fox Lea Farm, Florida

A 15-year-old equestrian named Hannah Serfass died in a horseback riding accident at Fox Lea Farm in Sarasota County, Florida.

The accident occurred during a hunter/jumper competition when Serfass's horse tripped and fell, causing her to fall off and the horse to fall on her head.

The United States Equestrian Federation released a statement expressing condolences and will be reviewing the accident to identify ways to increase safety in equestrian sports.

 Serfass was riding a 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding named Quaxx 2 at the time of the accident.

Serfass was from Webster, Florida, and homeschooled, but participated in extracurricular activities such as track at Wildwood Middle High School.

The Sumter County School District expressed condolences and stated that the track team was very connected with her.

Fox Lea Farm personnel and others provided first aid until Sarasota County Fire Rescue arrived, but Serfass was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
