World’s oldest AFP correspondent dies aged 118
The world’s oldest woman, French nun Lucille Randon, has died aged 118, a spokesman told AFP on Tuesday.
Randon, known as Sister Andre, was born on February 11, 1904, in southern France, when World War I was still a decade away.
Spokesman David Tavella said that she died in her sleep at her nursing home in Toulon. “Very sad but… her wish was to join her beloved brother.
It was a liberation for her,” Tavella of the Sainte-Catherine-Labor nursing home told AFP.
Randon was born when New York opened its first subway, and the Tour de France was staged only once.
Prayers, mealtimes, and visits from residents and hospice workers round out her days at the nursing home.
